IQ scores explained

As I am sure you are intelligent enough to know, IQ stands for intelligence quotient. Your IQ score is designed to measure the intelligence of a person in a standardized way. The following list will help explain your IQ score and what your IQ score means:

  • Over 200- Extreme genius, very rare IQ score
  • 180 - 200 - High genius
  • 160 - 180- Genius IQ score, intelligence of Nobel Prize Recipients
  • 140 - 160 - Intellectual IQ score, intelligence of college professor
  • 120 - 140 - Very superior IQ score, intelligence of college graduate or post-graduate student.
  • 110 - 119 - Superior IQ score, intelligence of university student.
  • 90 - 109 - Average IQ score, intelligence of 8th grader.
  • 80 - 89 - Below average IQ score, intelligence of 5th grader.
  • 70 - 79 - Unsatisfactory IQ score, indicates mental deficiency
  • Under 70 - Low IQ score, indicates mentally challenged

Average IQ Score

The average IQ is about 100. If you score above 100 this means you have a higher than average IQ. However, IQ scores below 100 indicate a lower that average IQ. Approximately half of those who take IQ tests receive an average score between 90 and 109. About 99.5% of IQ scores fall between 60 and 140. To become a member of the respected Mensa society, your IQ must be at least 132. Only about 1 in 50 people are intelligent enough to qualify.
